Can you get it done somewhere cheaper? Possibly. You really get what you pay for at Cutlass though. As someone who is always looking to get better at maintaining my bikes, it's invaluable to have someone who takes the time to understand your specific problem and what you've done to try to remedy it before talking you through their diagnosis and repair steps. I had an interesting disc brake issue that Tommy worked through with me, and I walked away not only with a better performing bike but al...
Tommy is a rare gem in the cycling world—an expert craftsman with an unwavering dedication to precision. Over the past seven years, I’ve had the pleasure of seeing his skills firsthand, from the final build of my custom steel Bishop Bike to the meticulous restoration of a 1982 Colnago frame, complete with vintage Campagnolo components. His attention to detail is second to none, and his trusting demeanor makes every interaction a pleasure. If you're looking for top-tier workmanship from someon...
I've spent a lot of time in bike shops in Austin TX, Portland OR, and Baltimore, and Tommy at Cutlass provides the best, most personalized service I've ever experienced. You can be confident your bike will be in the best condition possible after working with Tommy. He will of course do whatever you came into the shop for, but to me what makes Cutlass stand out is his industry knowledge and expertise. He usually has optional suggestions of ways to optimize your riding experience that you never...
Tommy built the wheels for my Bishop bike and I have been going to him for regular maintenance ever since. He is a perfectionist, up to date on the latest products and technology, and is super generous with his time and knowledge. We are lucky to have him in Baltimore and his new shop is awesome. Truly the highest level bike experience around!
I found a beautiful 2008 LeMond Zurich frame on ebay, but could not find a spare rear derailleur hanger for it. I checked all the 'standard' on-line sources, chased down many, many leads...but Cutlass Velo (CV) was able to find it very soon after I contacted them. I'm impressed by CV's willingness to check on this for me, and also I'm impressed by the breadth of their contacts throughout the national bike community. Many thanks, Cutlass Velo!!
